Unveiling the Super Mario Galaxy Movie: All the Exciting Announcements from Nintendo Direct – IGN

Nintendo recently dropped a fresh trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie during a surprise Nintendo Direct event. It’s packed with beloved characters, including Yoshi, who’s making his movie debut.

The event was hosted by Shigeru Miyamoto, the creative mind behind Mario. The trailer launches with Mario and Luigi zipping through a desert on motorbikes, heading to a familiar spot from Super Mario Odyssey—an inverted pyramid in the Sand Kingdom. Their mission? To unblock a rogue Warp Pipe. With Fire Flowers in hand, they delve into the dark, where they find… Yoshi! Surprisingly, he speaks!

At first, Yoshi appears scared of the brothers. Luckily, later scenes show him warming up and joining the team. Fans had been anticipating Yoshi’s arrival since his egg cracked in the post-credits of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

In the trailer, we also see Mario and Peach tackling a lava-filled level that looks straight out of Bowser’s Castle. Luigi, wearing a Frog Suit, leaps in to save a Toad who’s just been swallowed by a giant Cheep Cheep.

Another exciting reveal is Birdo, firing eggs at Peach, while a familiar character from Super Mario Bros. 2, Mouser, makes a cameo. It hints that Peach might have her own adventure while Mario and Luigi are busy.

We also catch a glimpse of Lakitu, who’s shooting projectiles at our heroes. Just when it seems like the trailer couldn’t get any more intense, it ends with Yoshi holding what looks like a Super Scope while Toad cradles Baby Luigi and Baby Mario, facing off against a T-Rex reminiscent of Super Mario Odyssey.

As for the film’s production status, Chris Meledandri from Illumination Studio mentioned that animation is complete, and they are currently in post-production. Music from the Super Mario Galaxy games is being recorded with a large orchestra, promising to enhance the film’s charm.

Interesting to note, the official cast announcements didn’t reveal who voices Yoshi or name any new actors. However, key players from the first film are back, including Chris Pratt as Mario and Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach.

Looking at the buzz, social media is buzzing about this movie. Fans are particularly excited about Yoshi and the return of nostalgic characters, leading to conversations about the film’s potential plot twists, including theories about Princess Peach and Rosalina.

The film is slated for release on April 1, two days earlier than expected, aligning with international schedules. For more details on the film, you can check out Nintendo’s official announcement here.
