Tata Motors is making bold moves in the domestic market, planning to launch 30 new products, including seven fresh nameplates, by 2030. One exciting development is the new sub-4 meter SUV, known internally as the Tata Scarlet.
The Scarlet is set to be a lifestyle SUV, taking design cues from the popular Sierra. It will have a boxy shape and a straight, bold front. This SUV will sit alongside the Tata Nexon, which is also gearing up for a new generation expected in 2027.
When it comes to engines, the Scarlet will likely share options with the Nexon or the upcoming Curvv. Expected engine choices include a 120hp 1.2L turbo petrol or a 125hp direct-injection version. There’s no word yet on whether a diesel variant will be available, but Tata is also developing a new 1.5-liter petrol engine that could feature in the larger Sierra.
In terms of pricing, the Scarlet aims to fill a niche between the Nexon and Curvv, likely starting around Rs 10 lakh and going up to Rs 17 lakh. It will target those looking for a more refined option compared to the rugged Mahindra Thar and Maruti Jimny but will be front-wheel drive without 4WD capabilities.
Recently, social media buzz has shown that potential buyers are excited about the SUV’s mix of modern design and practical features. A survey by AutoCarIndia found that 68% of young drivers prefer SUVs for their versatility and lifestyle appeal.
As the compact SUV market continues to grow, the Scarlet could play a significant role in reshaping Tata Motors’ lineup, appealing to a consumer base eager for stylish yet functional vehicles.
