The Trump administration is reportedly gearing up for significant immigration enforcement in Chicago next week. This follows previous operations that led to protests in Los Angeles. Sources from CBS News indicate that similar tactics, which include heavily armed units, will be used in Chicago.

These operations are set to begin around September 5, mirroring the spring efforts in Los Angeles. There, armored vehicles and tactical gear were a common sight. In June, the National Guard was also sent to Los Angeles during protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions. Chicago officials were informed that ICE tactical units might be deployed there too, although those units never appeared.

Now, it’s unclear if the upcoming operations in Chicago are linked to that earlier plan or if they are entirely new. However, they seem separate from President Trump’s recent discussions about deploying the National Guard to address crime in the city. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson have opposed these ideas, with Pritzker urging, “Mr. President, do not come to Chicago.
