In a proactive measure, Google has updated its security programs to block apps linked to BadBox. They’ve also filed a lawsuit against the perpetrators. This decisive action underscores the scale of the problem and the commitment to fighting cybercrime.

Human Security, a team that helped discover this threat, has pointed out that several hacker groups are involved. Their CEO, Stu Solomon, emphasized the importance of collaboration in tackling such complex issues, saying, “Our mission is to protect the digital ecosystem, and this operation shows how teamwork can expose and dismantle these threats.”

The FBI provided some straightforward tips for Android users. Here are signs that your device might be infected:

• Google Play Protect services are disabled.
• Streaming devices claiming to offer “free” content.
• Devices from brands you don’t recognize.
• Requiring downloads from unofficial app stores during setup.
• Unusual internet activity on your network.
