Urgent Alert: Measles Outbreak Near Clemson University — What You Need to Know

Recently, the South Carolina Department of Public Health confirmed a measles outbreak in the Upstate region. As of October 1, 2025, there are eight reported cases, with five occurring in just the past month.

Health officials are closely monitoring these cases, especially around Clemson University, where more than 7,000 students attend. Dr. Linda Bell, the state epidemiologist, warned that measles spreads easily, especially in communities with low vaccination rates. “If you are sick, please stay home,” she urged.

Furthermore, Canada and Mexico are also grappling with their own outbreaks this year.
