Extreme heat days could double, and coastal areas might face significant flooding risks.

Recent statistics show that Australia could see a rise in sea levels leading to the potential flooding of up to 250,000 properties by the end of the century. Rising seas and more intense storms would greatly impact coastal communities. These changes mean many homes and businesses could become uninsurable.

Beyond the environmental impact, there’s a financial threat as well. The report estimates Australia could face a staggering $4.2 trillion economic loss over the next 50 years if climate change remains unchecked. Strong climate targets can open doors to clean industries and help secure better relationships in the region.

As the federal government prepares to set its 2035 emissions reduction goals, the stakes couldn’t be higher. With a plan due in late 2025, Australia’s actions will align with the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global temperature rise to below 2°C.
