Urgent: Colorado Park Ranger Stabbed at Staunton State Park – Residents on Lockdown Amid Police Manhunt

On Tuesday, the skies over Staunton State Park were filled with aircraft as authorities searched for a suspect involved in the attempted murder of a park ranger. Residents nearby anxiously waited for updates from law enforcement.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. when the ranger got into a confrontation on Old Mill Trail. Unfortunately, the ranger was stabbed and urgently transported to the hospital. Thankfully, after undergoing surgery, he is recovering well, as reported by sheriff’s spokesperson Karlyn Tilley.

The suspect is described as a white man in his early 30s, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing around 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a plain grey shirt and blue jeans.

The search for the suspect involved ground teams and aerial support. Drones were utilized alongside multiple law enforcement agencies looking for clues. The park was locked down, with no one allowed to enter or exit. Visitors were evacuated from walking trails, and efforts were made to gather information from those who might have seen something.

Nearby schools and homes were also on high alert. Residents expressed their concerns about the situation. Tim Harvey, a long-time local, shared his experience of being searched while leaving the area. He noted feeling uneasy and locking his doors, something he typically doesn’t do. Another resident mentioned that the ongoing manhunt was unlike anything he had witnessed before.

This incident highlights broader concerns about safety in public spaces. According to a recent study by the National Park Service, incidents of violence in outdoor settings have increased over the past decade, leading to heightened awareness among visitors.

Staunton State Park itself, a popular destination located about 38 miles west of Denver, opened its doors in May 2013. Stretching over 3,900 acres, the park offers stunning views and various outdoor activities. However, in light of recent events, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety and vigilance in natural areas.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to call 911. As investigations continue, residents and visitors alike are tuned into their surroundings, hoping for a quick resolution to this troubling event.
