A food court in Derby, called Bustler Market, has received a stay of execution. Initially set to close by June 12 due to plans for a new housing development, it can now remain open for a while longer. This decision is part of the Castleward regeneration project, which aims to transform a former industrial area into an urban village.
Bustler Market has been operating in The Chocolate Factory since 2020, providing a vibrant space for street food and community events. Andy Darke, the events director at Bustler, shared that the council found some flexibility to extend their lease. He noted that many similar markets often operate in “meanwhile” spaces—temporary locations waiting for development.
Castleward is a £100 million project that has been evolving since 2012. It plans to turn industrial land between Derby Midlands Railway Station and the city center into residential neighborhoods. The council is preparing the next phase of this significant development.
With this news, Bustler can host events throughout 2025, including its popular Beer and Burger Festival and festive parties. Darke stated that they would keep hosting events around Derbyshire while searching for a new permanent spot. He acknowledged that finding a space as spacious as their current one will be a challenge but remains hopeful.
