Close to 6,000 pounds of dog food is being recalled because of potential salmonella contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued this warning about Blue Ridge Beef’s 2-pound log Natural Mix.
Salmonella is serious. It can make pets sick, and humans can get ill too, especially if they don’t wash their hands after handling the food. Symptoms in people can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. In rare cases, it may lead to more severe issues like infections or arthritis. If you feel any symptoms after handling the recalled product, it’s wise to check in with your doctor.
Pets affected by salmonella may be lethargic and show signs like diarrhea, vomiting, or fever. Some may simply have a decreased appetite or abdominal pain. Healthy pets can also carry the bacteria without showing symptoms, putting others at risk. If your pet has eaten this recalled food and shows any concerning signs, it’s best to contact your veterinarian.
The contamination was discovered after samples were tested by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, which found the presence of salmonella. The affected product was distributed between January 3 and January 24 and was sold in clear plastic packaging in several states including New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
The recall involves products with Lot No. N25/12/31 and UPC code 854298001054. If you have this dog food, it’s important to either return it to the store or dispose of it safely to keep children and pets away from it.
