Urgent: Help Save Locust Grove Food Pantry from Closing – Here’s How You Can Make a Difference!

LOCUST GROVE, Okla. — The Ministerial Alliance of Locust Grove food pantry is facing a challenging situation. They need to raise $100,000 in six months to keep helping their community. Their landlord has asked them to buy the building where they operate, located at 117 E. Main St. Without this facility, more than 1,000 locals could lose access to essential food resources.

The pantry, led by president Shanny Weaver, provides canned foods, fruits, and vegetables to about 1,500 people every month. “This food pantry means everything to this community,” Weaver says.

In addition to food, they also offer pet supplies and hygiene products. Recently, they delivered food to elderly and disabled residents in a nearby apartment complex. One of the recipients, Rodger Whethers, shared how crucial the pantry is for him: “If I can’t eat and get my things done, then I don’t get other things done.” Many clients rely on this support, as the closest alternative pantry is eight miles away in Salina, a distance too far for most, as 95% of users lack transportation.

Whethers emphasized the importance of the pantry, noting, “It’s very essential. I would have to find some other routine to get that same amount of food.” So far, they’ve managed to raise $10,000 but still need additional help to reach their goal. Weaver is reaching out for support, saying, “I’m asking everyone to help us make this goal.” The community’s support is vital to keep this lifeline open.
