Urgent Recall: 2 Million Baked Goods Pulled Due to Listeria Threat – What You Need to Know!

About two million baked goods, including doughnuts and coffee rolls sold at Dunkin’, were recalled due to concerns about Listeria monocytogenes, a harmful bacteria. This recall was announced by federal safety regulators recently.

The manufacturer, FGF Brands, which supplies baked goods in both the U.S. and Canada, decided to recall the products voluntarily after the FDA reported the potential risk of contamination.

The affected items include chocolate, raspberry, and Bavarian doughnuts, French crullers, éclairs, and coffee rolls. These products were produced before December 13, 2024. However, the source of the contamination has not been identified.

This recall, effective since January 7, was recently upgraded to Class II by the FDA. This classification means the product could cause temporary health issues, but serious risks are unlikely.

The FDA hasn’t provided guidance for consumers regarding the recall and hasn’t reported any illnesses directly linked to the baked goods. Neither FGF Brands nor Dunkin’ have responded to inquiries about the situation.

Listeria is particularly concerning because it’s the third leading cause of death from food-related illnesses in the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, while listeria infections are rare, they can lead to serious health issues.

Common symptoms of listeria infection are fever and headaches. Most people exposed to contaminated food won’t get sick. However, vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, the elderly, newborns, and those with weak immune systems are at risk of severe illness or even death.

Each year, around 1,600 people in the U.S. are infected with listeria, with approximately 260 fatalities reported. It’s crucial for consumers to stay informed about food safety.

The latest listeria-related recall occurred in December when Braga Fresh recalled a specific lot of ready-to-eat broccoli florets sold at Walmart.
