A company from Washington State is recalling a raw cat food product due to potential bird flu contamination. The recall affects their Boneless Free Range Chicken Formula, which is frozen and meant for cats. This step comes amid rising concerns about bird flu cases in livestock throughout the U.S.
Wild Coast Raw, based in Olympia, issued the recall after reports that at least one cat died after eating the product. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) noted that the food could be contaminated with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1, commonly known as bird flu.
Tyler Duncan, the founder of Wild Coast Raw, expressed his sorrow over the situation. He emphasized the company’s commitment to the safety of pets and acknowledged the loss of a beloved animal. The FDA reported that the company is working with the Washington State Department of Agriculture to identify the source of the contamination.
The raw pet food was distributed to retailers in Washington and Oregon. If you have purchased this product, it’s advised to stop using it and contact the retailer for further instructions.
