A U.S. Park Police officer was shot in Southeast Washington, D.C., according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. while the officer was in an unmarked white Tesla on Queens Stroll Place SE.
The officer was working undercover when two suspects ambushed him, firing at the moving vehicle. After the shooting, the officer managed to drive about half a mile to Benning Road SE near Southern Avenue.
A witness reported seeing the Tesla speeding away from the scene. Photos show the vehicle sustained multiple bullet holes.
Fortunately, the officer was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition. He was transported via helicopter operated by U.S. Park Police.
As of now, police are still looking for the shooters. Witnesses reported hearing two distinct sets of gunfire during the incident, underscoring the chaotic nature of the event.
