Urgent Update: Zelenskyy’s Warning After Russia Launches Oreshnik Missile Strikes on Kyiv

On Sunday, Kyiv experienced a series of missile and drone strikes just after 1 a.m. Local authorities reported explosions and damage to several buildings, including a school. At least three people were injured. According to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv military administration, the strikes hit multiple districts, including Shevchenkivsky and Dniprovsky.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy raised concerns about the use of the Oreshnik ballistic missile, stating it sets a dangerous precedent. He urged the international community to respond proactively to prevent further aggression from Russia. Zelenskyy’s call emphasizes the need for united action against acts of violence that threaten global security.

Just a day before the attacks, Zelenskyy pointed to intelligence warnings that Russia was preparing to use the Oreshnik missile. This missile has already been deployed in previous strikes, and its speed—reported to be over ten times the speed of sound—makes it challenging to intercept.

In related news, a 23-year-old British volunteer named Ayrton Redfearn was reportedly killed in the Donetsk region. His mother confirmed the tragic news, sharing that he was part of a special unit supporting the Ukrainian army. Redfearn, who had joined the Royal Air Force before volunteering, was set to receive a bravery award shortly after his death. The UK’s Foreign Office is currently assisting his family.

Renowned Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev called for peace in Ukraine while accepting an award at the Cannes Film Festival for his film about the war. He highlighted the desire for an end to the violence, making a direct appeal to Putin to stop the conflict.

The United Nations also condemned attacks on civilians after a deadly drone strike in Starobilsk, which reportedly killed 18 people. Ukraine denied targeting civilians, claiming the strikes were aimed at enemy forces. The UN noted that it couldn’t verify the details due to limited access to the area.

The unfolding events reflect a troubling escalation in conflict, with increased risks to civilian lives. The current situation signals a need for heightened international attention and support for peace efforts.
