US Border Authorities Capture Indian National Wanted for Murder Back Home: What You Need to Know

A 22-year-old Indian citizen, Vishat Kumar, has been arrested by U.S. border officials. He was caught at the Port of Buffalo after trying to enter Canada but was denied entry. Kumar had an Interpol Red Notice against him for murder in India.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Kumar was processed and handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He was later detained at a Federal Detention Facility in Batavia, New York, as he awaits removal proceedings.

Kumar had entered the U.S. illegally in 2024 and missed an asylum interview. Officers discovered he was hiding his true identity, using a false name and date of birth. Biometric technology helped confirm his real identity.

Acting Area Port Director Sharon Swiatek emphasized the importance of this arrest, stating it highlights the dedication of their officers who work with international agencies to maintain safety and justice.

Interestingly, the use of biometric technology is becoming more common in border security. According to a recent report from the International Organization for Migration, nearly 66% of countries are now using biometric systems to verify identities at borders. This trend not only helps catch fugitives but also improves overall security in an increasingly connected world.
