USC Men’s Water Polo: Making History as the Unrivaled Champion of the Sport

USC women’s water polo has been a powerhouse in recent years. But let’s take a trip back in time to the USC men’s water polo team, which achieved something extraordinary. Between 2008 and 2013, they won six consecutive national championships. That’s right—six championships in a row!

For more than five years, they dominated the NCAA Tournament. No team could get the better of them when it mattered most. This streak is even more impressive than the five straight College World Series titles won by USC baseball in the early ’70s.

To put it in context, their six titles are just one shy of the seven consecutive NCAA men’s basketball championships won by UCLA under legendary coach John Wooden.

These six championships can be thought of as four separate three-peats: 2008-2010, 2009-2011, 2010-2012, and 2011-2013. Every graduating class during this period—Classes of 2012, 2013, and 2014—claimed the title each year they played.

The success of USC men’s water polo is unmatched and continues to stand out in college sports. Even teams in other leagues, like the Kansas City Chiefs, can only aspire to such consistent excellence.
