Usher recently opened up about why he chose to miss the 67th Annual Grammy Awards this past Sunday. In an interview on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” he shared his heartfelt thoughts on the matter.
He expressed that the recent wildfires in Los Angeles made it hard for him to feel celebratory. “With everything that’s happened, it really wasn’t a celebratory moment for me,” he said. Usher felt compelled to pay respect to those affected by the devastating fires.
As an eight-time Grammy winner, Usher believes it’s important for celebrities to focus on helping those who have suffered losses. “We should devote our time and attention to the people that have lost everything,” he added.
“It’s difficult to celebrate when you see the pain outside,” he noted, explaining his choice to skip the event. He had a strong desire to avoid any appearance of disrespecting those in need. “I know people who have lost everything. We’re hurting for them,” he said.
A representative from the Recording Academy later confirmed that the Grammy ceremony raised $9 million for fire relief efforts in Los Angeles, which highlights how the entertainment community can come together to support those in crisis.
