Utah Hockey Club Renames Team: Say Goodbye to Wasatch, Hello to Outlaws in Exciting Fan Vote!

The Utah Hockey Club is making exciting changes as they work towards selecting a permanent name and jersey scheme for the 2025-26 NHL season. After initially announcing three finalists, they have replaced one of the choices. The name Wasatch, inspired by the beautiful Wasatch mountain range, has been swapped out for Outlaws.

Now, fans have three names to choose from: Hockey Club, Mammoth, and Outlaws. Voting will take place during the team’s current four-game homestand, giving fans a chance to make their voices heard.

In an official statement, the team acknowledged fan feedback, stating, “We listened to your feedback and dug into all the Qualtrics data from last night’s survey. For the team name, it’s clear that Outlaws should be in the mix instead of Wasatch.”

Fans have shown strong support for another name, Yeti, but due to trademark issues, it has been removed from the list. Mike Maughan from Smith Entertainment Group, the team’s parent company, confirmed that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rejected the name and logo. They noted the decision was based on a “likelihood of confusion” with existing brands, particularly Yeti Coolers.

The team is optimistic that whichever name wins the fan vote will pass the trademark process. They aim to have everything finalized, including home and away jerseys, ready for the new NHL season.
