Utah Valley University Secures Million Gift from Philanthropists Rich and Marla Linder: Transforming Education in the Region

Utah Valley University (UVU) has exciting news! Rich and Marla Linder have pledged $35 million to boost campus development and create a center focusing on national security. This donation marks the largest single gift in the university’s history.

This funding will go towards the Xenter Building, a new facility for the College of Health and Public Services. Here, students will find state-of-the-art simulation labs, AI technology, and collaborative workspaces. These features aim to prepare future professionals in nursing, physician assistant roles, behavioral health, and public health to deliver coordinated patient care effectively.

Additionally, the donation will help set up the Orrin Hatch Center for National Security Studies. This center will emphasize areas like cybersecurity, intelligence, and emergency preparedness. According to UVU President Astrid S. Tuminez, “Students studying national security will be better equipped to lead in defense, diplomacy, and cybersecurity.” This position underscores the growing importance of these fields in today’s world.

Interestingly, the focus on health and security fields comes at a time when national demand for skilled professionals in these areas is rising. A recent report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that jobs in health care sectors are projected to grow significantly over the next decade. Similarly, cybersecurity jobs are expected to increase by 31% by 2029 as more businesses prioritize data protection.

The new facilities at UVU symbolize a shift in educational strategy, emphasizing hands-on learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. With these developments, UVU is well-positioned to prepare its students for the future, equipping them with the skills necessary for a rapidly changing job market.
