UVA Health Children’s Hospital Tops Virginia Rankings as #1 by U.S. News & World Report!

For the fifth year in a row, U.S. News & World Report has named UVA Health Children’s the top children’s hospital in Virginia. This is a proud moment for the UVA Health team and its commitment to young patients.

In its 2025-26 “Best Children’s Hospitals” guide, the rankings boast nine specialties from UVA Health Children’s that rank among the top 50 in the nation, showcasing the quality of care these pediatric specialists provide.

Dr. Mitchell Rosner, UVA’s executive vice president for health affairs, expressed pride in the team’s dedication. “These rankings highlight the hard work of our staff in serving children and their families,” he said. This recognition speaks volumes about the care offered at UVA Health Children’s, especially for the most serious health issues.

The rankings are based on several important factors—patient outcomes, safety, and access to specialized programs. Additionally, they include insights from a national survey of pediatric specialists. Dr. Madhu Misra, chair of the Department of Pediatrics, adds, “Our team’s empathy and care make a real difference in our patients’ lives.”

UVA Health Children’s is constantly evolving to better serve families across Virginia. Recently, they opened the Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Health Clinic in Albemarle County. This clinic was established through a collaboration with Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. Plans are also underway to expand the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit from 60 to 100 beds, allowing them to care for more infants in need.

“I’m eager to support our team in providing specialized care to more young patients,” said Jason Lineen, the interim chief of UVA Health Children’s. “These rankings confirm how vital our children’s hospital is for Virginia.”

Overall, UVA Health Children’s offers primary and specialized care in over 30 fields. Located within University Medical Center, it has 122 beds, a pediatric emergency department, and a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The focus is on delivering high-quality care tailored to young patients.

The continued success of UVA Health Children’s can be seen not just in its rankings, but also in the dedication of its staff and the expanding services offered to meet community needs.
