Vancouver, B.C. – Today, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced an important trade. The Canucks have acquired forwards Marco Rossi and Liam Öhgren, defenseman Zeev Buium, and a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft from the Minnesota Wild. In exchange, the Canucks have traded defenseman Quinn Hughes.
“We want to thank Quinn for everything he’s done for the Canucks,” said Jim Rutherford. “He’s an outstanding player and one of the best in our history. Given the situation with our roster, we feel lucky to gain such talented young players from Minnesota. They will help us rebuild and aim for a brighter future.”
Allvin echoed this sentiment. “Trading a player of Quinn’s caliber is tough. But we believe this trade improves our team. We’re thrilled to welcome Marco, Zeev, and Liam to Vancouver. Plus, the first-round pick adds value as this draft is likely to be strong.”
Marco Rossi, 24, has played 17 games this season for the Wild, earning 13 points (4 goals, 9 assists). Over his career, he has played 202 games, racking up 114 points. Rossi has also represented Austria in international competitions, showcasing his talent on a global stage.
Liam Öhgren, 21, is another exciting addition. He has played 18 games for the Wild this season, alongside his time with the AHL’s Iowa Wild, where he scored five points. A native of Stockholm, he has multiple international appearances, including a gold medal at the 2022 U18 World Championships.
Zeev Buium, 20, adds to the Canucks’ defensive prowess. He has played 31 games this season, recording 14 points and making an impressive start as a rookie. Before turning pro, he had a standout college career, winning an NCAA National Championship with the University of Denver.
The Canucks now hold six picks in the 2026 Draft, reinforcing their strategy for the future. This trade not only shakes up the roster but also emphasizes a commitment to developing young talent, a move that modern NHL teams increasingly rely on as they aim for competitiveness.
According to recent studies, teams that invest in youth development tend to see success over time. In fact, a 2021 report indicated that franchises with a strong pipeline of young players often outperform teams reliant on older stars. The Canucks’ latest moves align with this trend, suggesting they are taking a forward-thinking approach.
As the Canucks embark on this new chapter, only time will tell how these young players will shape the team’s destiny. Fans are hopeful for a future filled with talent and success.
