VEGAS (March 6, 2025) – The Vegas Golden Knights have welcomed back forward Reilly Smith from the New York Rangers. General Manager Kelly McCrimmon announced that Smith was traded for forward Brendan Brisson and a third-round pick in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft.
Smith, who is 33 years old, has played in 58 games this season with the Rangers, scoring 29 points—10 goals and 19 assists. Remarkably, two of those goals were short-handed. He averaged around 15 and a half minutes of ice time per game. Last season, Smith played 76 games with Pittsburgh, where he notched 40 points (13 goals, 27 assists) and finished with a +3 plus-minus rating.
Originally from Mimico, Ontario, Smith was instrumental in helping the Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup in 2023. He participated in all 22 playoff games, contributing 14 points (4 goals and 10 assists), including the decisive goal in Game 5 of the Cup Final. Over his six seasons with Vegas from 2017 to 2023, Smith stands fifth all-time in franchise history for games played (399), assists (162), and points (286). He ranks third in goals scored with 124 and boasts an impressive +86 rating. His 12 short-handed goals as a Golden Knight make him second all-time in that category, trailing only William Karlsson, who has 13. Smith was initially acquired by the Golden Knights during the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft.
