Verizon Outage Alert: Voice and Data Services Disrupted for Thousands—What You Need to Know

Verizon is currently facing serious network issues, affecting both calls and data for many users. Customers have reported seeing messages like “SOS” instead of the usual network bars. Even Verizon’s own status page struggled to load due to high traffic.

Users on platforms like DownDetector started flagging problems around 12 PM ET, with reports reaching hundreds of thousands at their peak. While text messages seem to still function for some, calls and data are noticeably affected. During the outage, there were also minor spikes in issues reported on competing networks like AT&T and T-Mobile, but the numbers were far lower—Verizon’s peak was around 181,769 reports compared to just 1,769 for AT&T.

In response to the situation, Verizon acknowledged the problem on its news account, stating, “We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers.” The company’s engineering teams have been working to resolve the issue but did not provide a timeline for when normal service would resume.

The outages seem to be concentrated in major cities like Boston, New York, and Washington, D.C., but reports indicate growing issues in places like Chicago and San Francisco. As of 2:14 PM ET, Verizon claimed its engineers were actively addressing the problem. However, by 3:09 PM ET, user reports showed that although some service had started to return for a few customers, many were still facing issues.

The situation worsened by 4:06 PM ET, with a drop in service still affecting thousands. As of 4:52 PM ET, the outage had continued for nearly four hours, similar to a significant incident that occurred in 2024.

Interestingly, reports from T-Mobile and AT&T indicated that their networks were not impacted by Verizon’s troubles. T-Mobile even mentioned on social media that its services were “operating normally.”

While the exact cause of the outage remains unclear, users are actively reacting on social media, sharing updates and their experiences. This shows how reliant we have become on stable network services, especially in a world where communication is key.

The ongoing issues highlight the necessity for providers to maintain robust systems, especially in dense urban areas where demand is high. User experiences not only reflect dissatisfaction but also emphasize the importance of transparency from telecom companies during outages.

Stay tuned for updates, as this situation continues to evolve.
