Vernon Bowlers Bring Home the Gold: Highlights from the B.C. Championships

Exciting news from the bowling lanes! The Lincoln Lanes senior boys’ team, consisting of cousins Lukas Rachwalski and Colton Dranchuk, has secured a spot in the national finals in Edmonton after an intense provincial championship match in Kamloops.

Over the weekend, the boys faced off against five other teams in the Senior Boys division, competing in a match-play format. Each time they faced an opponent, their goal was to achieve a higher pin count. After two days and ten games, Lukas and Colton finished with an impressive 8-2 record, tying with another team from Prince George.

However, the championship wasn’t decided just by overall scores. The two teams went into a tiebreaker, where Lukas and Colton triumphed by only four pins after three extra frames. “When we saw we had to go to a tiebreaker, I reminded them that their story wasn’t over,” said their coach, Kara Kazimer. “We had practiced for moments like this, and it paid off.” She added that the competition was filled with ups and downs, but the boys fought hard and earned their way to Edmonton.

The performance by Lukas and Colton was stellar, with their total pin count reaching 4,319. Their opponents from Prince George scored 4,236, while the bronze medalist, Poco Bowl from Port Coquitlam, finished with 4,317 pins but a lower match record.

In addition to the senior boys’ success, another team from Vernon also made waves at the Junior Boys Division. Brothers Axl and Talon Rachwalski, coached by their dad, Trevor, earned a bronze with a total pin count of 4,061. Despite ending with a 6-9 record, their high pin count set them apart from other teams.

Lincoln Lanes had two more teams competing at the event. The Senior Girls team, Sierra Merry and Charleigh Lemay, finished tied for fourth with a record of 4-6. The provincial title went to a team from Prince George with a strong 9-1 record. In the Bantam Boys Division, Trentyn Birmingham and Ryker Schnyder concluded their weekend with a 1-9 record and a total pin score of 2,293.

The championships showcased some incredible talent and determination, especially from the Vernon teams. As they prepare for Edmonton, excitement is in the air, and we can’t wait to see how they perform on the national stage!
