Vibrant Celebration: Naga Artists Illuminate India Fest’s Grand Finale in Moscow

Moscow, Jul 12 (PTI) — The Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, has arrived in Moscow with a vibrant 40-member cultural troupe. They’re set to perform at the closing ceremony of the nine-day India Fest, known as Bharat Utsav, near the historic Kremlin.

The festival wraps up on a high note with a showcase of Naga artists, celebrating Indian culture at Manezh Square, right by the Kremlin wall. It’s been a bustling venue where local residents and visitors alike have enjoyed the sights, sounds, and tastes of India.

The Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Moscow, Nikhilesh Giri, welcomed Rio upon his arrival. India has played a significant role in this festival, with Nagaland being a key participant among several Indian states.

The festival has transformed the area into a lush green oasis, featuring stalls that offer a taste of India through food, handicrafts, and more. With the theme ‘Vikas Bhi – Virasaat Bhi’ (Development along with Heritage), it aims to celebrate both progress and tradition.

During the event, locals like Margarita, a “young muscovite pensioner,” expressed their joy. Having visited India’s vibrant regions, she relished her favorite snack, samosa, paired perfectly with masala tea.

This celebration is notable for its location, nestled between the Kremlin and the State Duma. Deputy Chairman of the Moscow City Tourism Committee, Bulat Nurmukhanov, remarked on its significance. Such a cultural fest near Russia’s center of power highlights the friendly ties between India and Russia, aiming to foster deeper connections between their peoples.

In recent years, cultural exchanges have shown to strengthen international relationships. According to a survey by the Pew Research Center, 74% of Russians view India positively, reflecting the mutual respect that this festival exemplifies. As global relationships shift, events like Bharat Utsav help maintain strong bonds, showing how culture can bring people together across borders.
