Vikings Dominate Boxers in Thrilling Showdown at Forest Grove – Portland State Athletics Recap

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Portland State women’s tennis team clinched a convincing win against Pacific University on Saturday. This marks their second straight road victory at the Holce Tennis Center.

The Vikings (2-1) showcased their strength, winning all six singles matches in straight sets and completing a clean sweep in doubles.

Scarlett Perkins and Nene Uemura kicked things off with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles against Tiara Yeung and Henleigh Elder. Hana Abdelhamid and Marta Giglio, playing together for the first time this season, followed up with a 6-2 victory over Stella Nishimura and Chloe Takahashi. Lastly, Anjola Ige and Kasumi Hirayama finished the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win against Mia Yamaguchi and Brooke Curtis.

In singles play, Hirayama (No. 3), Giglio (No. 4), and Ige (No. 6) all dominated their matches, allowing just one game each. Abdelhamid took care of her opponent with a 6-0, 6-2 score, while Uemura won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2. Perkins had a tougher start but ultimately won 7-6 (5), finishing strong with a 6-1 win in the second set.

The Vikings will be back on the court on Sunday, Feb. 8 for their home opener against Linfield at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center, starting at 9 a.m.
