Portland State Struggles Against Montana in Doubleheader
On Saturday, the Portland State Vikings faced tough competition against the Montana Grizzlies. In their first game of the doubleheader, the Vikings were shut out 5-0. In the second game, they put up a better fight but still fell, losing 10-5.
In the opener, Portland State had chances, getting runners on base in several innings. Unfortunately, they couldn’t score and finished with only four hits. Montana, on the other hand, hit two home runs and scored consistently throughout the game, securing the win. Nichole Orozco had the only extra-base hit for the Vikings.
The second game saw some improvement for Portland State. They managed to score three runs in the third inning, thanks to key hits from Orozco and Sofia Peato. However, Montana extended its lead to 10-3 by the fifth inning. Portland State made a late push, scoring two runs in their final at-bat, but it wasn’t enough.
Martinez had a standout performance in game two, recording three hits, while Orozco, Peato, and Breanna Lutz each contributed with two hits.
The Vikings will have a chance to change their fortunes as they conclude the series against Montana on Sunday, March 29, at 11:00 a.m. PT.
