Gyokeres also showed an aggressive approach, making 327 touches in the opponent’s box and attempting 139 shots—roughly every 20 minutes.

What’s striking is his shot-conversion rate of 27.3%, surpassing high-profile forwards like Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland. Only Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood performed better in the Premier League. Internationally, Gyokeres shined too, scoring nine goals in six games for Sweden, including four in one match against Azerbaijan, making him the top scorer in the 2024-25 Nations League.

The big question now is how Gyokeres will perform in a more competitive league. At 27, he has yet to play in Europe’s top five leagues. The Portuguese Primeira Liga ranks eighth in strength worldwide, according to data from Opta, which could raise eyebrows.

Skepticism exists, especially after Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez faced challenges in England despite scoring 26 goals for Benfica. However, many players like Bruno Fernandes and Ruben Dias have thrived after moving from Portugal to the Premier League.

Gyokeres isn’t just about scoring; he brings many qualities to the pitch. His 6’2″ frame gives him physical strength, while his movement and work-rate showcase his tactical skills. He’s not just a finisher; he also creates chances through dribbling and running with the ball.

His journey hasn’t been straightforward. After a disappointing stint at Brighton, Gyokeres joined Coventry City in 2021. There, over two seasons, he scored 38 goals in 91 league games, leading to a £20.5 million transfer to Sporting Lisbon.
