VinFast VF 6 and VF 7 Achieve Top 5-Star Safety Ratings in Bharat NCAP Tests – What This Means for You!

VinFast, a Vietnamese electric vehicle maker, just earned a significant boost in its credibility in India. Its VF 6 and VF 7 electric SUVs received a top 5-star safety rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP). This rating means a lot as the company looks to grow in the Indian market.

Both models showed impressive results in protecting adults and children. The VF 6 scored 27.13 out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection and 44.41 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection. Meanwhile, the VF 7 did even better, with scores of 28.54 and 45.25, respectively. These scores place them among the safest electric SUVs in India right now.

When tested for crash safety, the vehicles performed well across various categories. In frontal tests, they scored top marks for head, neck, and leg safety. Side impact tests also resulted in perfect scores for both adult and child occupants. The head injury assessments in pole side impact tests were also much lower than the critical threshold, indicating a very high level of safety.

Tapan Ghosh, the CEO of VinFast India, mentioned that these ratings confirm the company’s commitment to safety in a diverse market like India. “Our vehicles meet strict safety standards,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of these ratings.

The Bharat NCAP, which follows global safety frameworks, assigns ratings based on both car structure and occupant safety. A 5-star rating shows that a vehicle meets the highest safety standards in India.

VinFast assembles the VF 6 and VF 7 at its facility in Tamil Nadu. These models are a key part of its strategy to position itself in the premium segment. The VF 6 is priced between ₹16.5 and ₹18.5 lakh, while the VF 7 is more premium, ranging from ₹21 to ₹26.8 lakh (ex-showroom).

Both models are built on platforms designed specifically for electric vehicles and come with features like seven airbags and advanced driver assistance systems, which include adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, and blind spot detection, depending on the variant.

Looking ahead, VinFast plans to broaden its offerings, potentially introducing models priced in the ₹10–14 lakh range. This could include electric multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) to cater to a wider audience. In addition to launching three new models in 2023, the company is also focused on expanding its retail network and charging infrastructure, which highlights its long-term commitment to the Indian market.

With the global shift toward electric vehicles, VinFast’s entry into India aligns with trends observed in recent reports. In fact, a study by the International Energy Agency indicates that electric vehicle sales in India increased by over 200% in the last year. This growing interest in EVs presents a significant opportunity for companies like VinFast to establish themselves in a rapidly evolving market.

As the automotive landscape changes, safety and innovation will remain key factors in attracting consumers. The positive response to VinFast’s safety achievements might just be the tip of the iceberg in enhancing its reputation in one of the world’s largest automotive markets.
