During a match between Australia and England at Gaddafi Stadium, a young man was seen waving the Indian flag in a viral video. Security quickly stepped in, removing the flag and escorting the fan out, which triggered backlash from viewers online. Many argued that this raised questions about how fans are treated in high-pressure environments, especially given the sensitive nature of Pakistan-India relations.
The incident has sparked conversations among netizens, with opinions divided on issues like freedom of expression and national security. As the video spread, it highlighted the deep connections fans have with their national symbols, and how these connections can lead to conflict in a charged political landscape.
Earlier in the tournament, there was another controversy when a video showed a stadium in Karachi with all participating countries’ flags displayed—except for India’s. Organizers explained that India didn’t take part in this edition of the Champions Trophy, leading to that omission.
