This was only her second interview since she distanced herself from her father, whom she legally separated from by changing her name and gender in 2022. In her chat with Teen Vogue, Wilson revealed that she sometimes pokes fun at her father on social media. “When I see news about him, I think it’s cringe and want to speak out against it,” she said. For example, she criticized Musk’s gestures at major political events, like a salute at Trump’s inauguration, calling it a clear Nazi salute. “We need to call it what it is,” Wilson emphasized, adding that the audience also shares the blame for cheering during that event.

Currently studying in Tokyo, Wilson dismissed any fears about her father’s wealth and power. “He’s a pathetic man-child,” she stated bluntly. “Why should I be scared? Just because he’s rich?” She also pointed out the absurdity of his name change for Twitter, now called “X.” “Great, he owns Twitter. I don’t care,” she remarked.

Wilson addressed her father’s shifting political views, suggesting it’s not connected to her transition. “Him going further right isn’t my fault,” she clarified. “That narrative is more about him than me.”

Fortunately, her mother, Justine Wilson, has been supportive throughout her transition. Vivian expressed a desire to have communicated her changes to her mother before the public announcement. “She deserves to be the first to know,” she said. At the same time, Justine was not surprised, quickly accepting the news.

Vivian believes in raising awareness of gender-affirming care for minors. She stressed the importance of treatments like puberty blockers and hormone therapy, which she had to obtain parental consent for. “It’s essential to help kids feel comfortable in their skin,” she stated. She criticized the previous administration for its harmful policies against the trans community and other vulnerable groups, calling them “cartoonishly evil.”

Interestingly, Vivian stumbled upon her new half-siblings on a RuPaul’s Drag Race subreddit, where people joked about Musk having more children. She also commented on the humorless nature of some right-wing figures, saying, “They lack charisma. You have to be funny, and most of them just aren’t.”
