Warner Bros. Games Unveils Exciting New Divisions for ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Mortal Kombat,’ and DC Universe!

Warner Bros. Games is making big changes by forming a new leadership team focused on its most popular franchises: Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC Universe. This restructuring is all about streamlining development and tech operations.

Three studio heads have been promoted. Yves Lachance from Warner Bros. Games Montréal will lead the development of Harry Potter and Game of Thrones games. Shaun Himmerick from NetherRealm takes charge of Mortal Kombat and DC games. Steven Flenory, leader of Warner Bros. Games New York, will oversee tech and services.

In this new structure, Lachance and Himmerick will report to J.B. Perrette, the CEO of Global Streaming and Games at Warner Bros. Discovery. All teams will work closely under their leadership, aligned with their respective franchises. Notably, this shift hasn’t led to any layoffs or executive departures.

This restructuring comes after the departure of former games chief David Haddad in January. It remains unclear if the company is looking for a permanent replacement or if this is a new approach to leadership.

Warner Bros. Discovery is also undergoing a major split into two companies: one for streaming and studios, led by David Zaslav, and another for global networks, headed by CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels. This split is expected to be completed by mid-2026, bringing the games division under the streaming and studios umbrella.

This emphasis on franchises is a broader trend within Warner Bros. Discovery, which has been reorganizing its TV and film studios to maximize their potential. According to Perrette, “Our company is home to some of the biggest franchises in the world.” This shift aims to create engaging experiences for fans and players alike.

Recent industry surveys show that franchise-focused games are gaining more attention, with a 2022 report from Newzoo indicating that franchise titles generate up to 50% more revenue than standalone games. This data highlights the importance of strong franchise management in today’s gaming landscape.

As this new leadership rolls out, the expectation is that these changes will allow Warner Bros. Games to deliver more exciting titles. Keeping fans happy while building on established franchises could very well shape the future of gaming for the company.
