Warner Bros Horror Dominates Box Office: ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Earns $43M, ‘Sinners’ Remains Strong with $15M in Fifth Weekend!

Warner Bros/New Line’s latest horror flick, Final Destination: Bloodlines, is off to an impressive start. On its opening day, it raked in about $20 million, boosted by $5.5 million from previews. By the end of the weekend, the movie could reach around $43 million across 3,523 theaters. This would mark the highest opening for any film in the Final Destination series.

In a surprising twist, even Sinners, currently in third place, is doing quite well with an expected $15 million this weekend, just a 32% drop from last week. What’s more remarkable is that it’s outpacing The Blair Witch Project’s fifth weekend box office by $500,000, bringing its total to around $240 million. With a strong reception from audiences—PostTrak surveys show a 4-star rating and 69% recommend rate—the film continues to find its footing, especially in IMAX theaters.

In second place for the weekend, Disney’s Thunderbolts aims for $16 million, which is 50% down compared to previous weeks, making its total about $154.8 million so far. Notably, it’s performing 14% better than Eternals did at the same stage.

Over at Lionsgate, Hurry Up Tomorrow, starring The Weeknd and Jenna Ortega, isn’t faring as well. With a lackluster rating of 1/2 star and a 34% recommendation score, the film made only $1.65 million in previews. The Weeknd’s concert tour, which is expected to earn $400 million this year, adds some buzz to the film, but critical reception has been tough.

Interestingly, the horror genre continues to resonate well with audiences. As of today, Bloodlines has already surpassed the previews for NEON’s The Monkey, which made $1.9 million before an opening of $14 million. This shift in audience taste reflects a trend in recent years, where horror films often outperform other genres in the box office, particularly during summer months. A 2023 survey showed that 62% of moviegoers prefer horror over romance during peak seasons.

Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein are behind Bloodlines, adapting characters created by Jeffrey Reddick. This film is poised to be the fourth No. 1 opening for Warner Bros this year, following Mickey 17, A Minecraft Movie, and Sinners. As Warner Bros claims the top spot at the box office this weekend, it reflects their successful strategy of diversifying their film offerings.
