Warner Bros Games shifts focus to other franchises like Harry Potter and Mortal Kombat.

Warner Bros Discovery is closing three gaming studios. This includes the team behind the much-anticipated Wonder Woman game.

The studios set to close are Monolith, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. Unfortunately, the Wonder Woman game, in the works for three years at Monolith, will not see the light of day.

This news comes during tough times for the gaming industry. Since the Covid pandemic, many companies have faced significant sales drops and job losses.

According to a Warner Bros spokesperson, the closures aim to improve profits. They commented on the Wonder Woman project, saying, “We wanted to create a great experience for fans, but it’s not feasible within our strategy now.”

Additionally, last month, Player First Games announced that there would be no new updates for MultiVersus. Players will need to play it offline for the foreseeable future.

Moving forward, Warner Bros plans to concentrate on popular franchises such as Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, and Game of Thrones.

The gaming industry faced many challenges last year. There were delays, studio closures, and major layoffs, including at Microsoft and Sony.

Warner Bros had high hopes for the game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but it received poor reviews from both fans and critics.

After weak sales, the game stopped receiving updates in January.

Recently, David Haddad, the gaming unit’s chief, left after 12 years with the company.

Many players are now spending less on new games, sticking with favorites like Fortnite or franchises like Call of Duty and EA Sports FC instead. This shift in spending has hit major game makers, including Warner Bros, especially hard.

Additionally, there’s an ongoing concern regarding the use of artificial intelligence in game development, which adds to these challenges.
