It’s senior night at Warren High School, and the excitement is palpable as the boys’ basketball team takes on Parkersburg. The atmosphere is electric, with nine seniors playing their last regular season home game. However, the team starts off slow, committing nine turnovers in the opening quarter. Despite this rocky start, Warren turns things around and eventually wins the game 76-64.
During a post-game speech, Coach Blaine Maddox acknowledges the team’s shaky performance at first but praises their hard work and dedication throughout the years. “It was bad basketball there in the first quarter, but we came back strong in the second,” he says, highlighting the importance of focus on such a big night. The team is justifiably proud as they celebrate their senior players.
Julian Stadelman, the school’s all-time leading scorer, is a standout in the game. He finishes with 19 points, adding nine assists and seven rebounds, nearly achieving a triple-double despite being shut out in the first quarter. “It’s been a long, hard process for me,” he reflects on his four years playing for Coach Maddox.
Warren’s scoring doesn’t stop here. Four players reach double figures, with Chase Lupardus leading with 20 points, 16 of which come in the second half. He expresses his desire for his fellow seniors to be remembered for their relentless efforts every game. Teammates Hayden Wells and Connor Barry contribute 14 points each, helping the team close the regular season with an impressive 20-2 record.
Now, the Warriors look ahead to the playoffs. They await the winner of Athens and Marietta, preparing for their next challenge with confidence built from a strong senior night tradition.
On the other side, Parkersburg, facing some lineup challenges due to illness, puts up a good fight. Despite their struggles, Nate Rodriguez scores 25 points and keeps his team competitive. Parkersburg coach Phil Wilson notes, “We knew it would be tough coming in with their senior night, but we faced a lot of challenges.”
As the teams gear up for their future games, both will take away valuable lessons from this matchup. Warren exemplifies resilience, while Parkersburg aims to strengthen their team spirit heading into the rest of the season.
