SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Washington women’s golf team had a strong start in the Juli Inkster Invitational, finishing fourth out of 14 teams. They trail California, Santa Clara, and San Jose State as they head into the final round.
Mads Smith shone brightly in her first round, scoring a 69 with three birdies. She had a tougher second round, ending the day at even par with a total score of 144.
Wendy Tang and Amber Li followed closely behind, both tied for 18th with scores of 147. Tang carded a one-over in her first round and two-over in her second. Li recorded two-over in her first round and one-over in the afternoon.
Carmen Lim started strong with two birdies and ended her first round at even par. However, she struggled in the second, finishing the day with a total score of 149 and tied for 29th.
Athena Ni’s scores were different; she shot a 75 in the first round and fell to an 81 in the second, leaving her tied for 63rd overall with a total of 156.
Coach Anna Temple expressed pride in the team’s effort. “We’ve been focusing on controllable aspects, and it was great to see commitment. Mads had a solid morning round, and overall, we showed consistent play,” she said.
As the Huskies prepare to tackle the final 18 holes at TPC Harding Park, their determination and teamwork will be key. With just 18 holes left, they have a chance to improve their standings and gain valuable experience.
