He claims there is “no vaccine that is safe and effective,” yet also acknowledges that “some of the live-virus vaccines are probably averting more problems than they’re causing.”
Kennedy has made false connections between vaccines and autism—a misconception that scientific research has thoroughly disproven. Despite this, he maintains he is not anti-vaccine, stating, “If vaccines are working for somebody, I’m not going to take that away. People ought to have choice.”
On “CBS Mornings Plus,” Gounder stated that Kennedy’s remarks show a lack of clarity about vaccines and the research behind them. He seems to support some live virus vaccines while opposing others, like the measles vaccine. This contradiction raises questions about his stance.
Gounder described Kennedy’s claims linking vaccines to autism as “thoroughly debunked.” She emphasized that while we should investigate autism’s causes, focusing on incorrect theories will lead us nowhere. She believes Kennedy’s influence can be harmful, given his platform and the responsibilities of agencies like the CDC and FDA.
