Today, a passenger jet from Kansas carrying about 60 people crashed into the Potomac River after colliding with a military helicopter near Reagan National Airport in Washington. Emergency teams are on the scene, but all flights at the airport have been stopped for now.
Footage of the incident spread quickly on social media, showing the moment the jet hit the military helicopter near the airport. The crash happened around 9 PM local time (0200 GMT).
The FAA reported that a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700, flying as Flight 5342 for American Airlines, was approaching the airport when it collided with a US Army Sikorsky H-60 Black Hawk helicopter.
Kansas Senator Roger Marshall expressed his shock, calling the event a “nightmare.” He sent prayers for the victims and their families, reflecting the deep concern felt across the country.
According to news sources, there were three soldiers on the military helicopter at the time of the crash.
