BIG BEAR, Calif. — Meet Jackie and Shadow, the famous bald eagle couple from Big Bear. They are now proud parents of three adorable eaglets! You can watch them care for their little ones live!
The first eaglet made its grand entrance on Monday night, just before 11:30 p.m. This heartwarming moment was broadcast live during the 11 p.m. news on ABC7 Eyewitness News. The second chick hatched soon after, during the night, and by 6:30 a.m. Saturday, the third egg had also cracked open.
Jackie and Shadow are doing a fantastic job taking turns watching over the eaglets and feeding them. These little birds will stay in the nest for about 10 to 14 weeks, growing strong under the careful eye of their parents.
As for names, the eaglets don’t have any yet. Local third-graders in Big Bear will help choose names for the new arrivals. Last year, Jackie and Shadow successfully raised an eaglet named Spirit, picked through a public contest.
It’s exciting to see these eaglets growing up. They symbolize the recovery of the bald eagle population, which faced serious challenges not too long ago. Wildlife expert Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant noted that just decades ago, bald eagles were endangered and on the brink of extinction due to unhatched eggs.
