Watch the Heartwarming Recovery Journey of an Otter at B.C. Rehab: A Must-See Video!

If you’re curious about river otters, you can watch them online before they’re released back into the wild in Metchosin.

The BC SPCA Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre has set up a critter cam that streams live footage of two orphaned river otters. These little ones arrived during the summer and are making great progress in their recovery.

River otters usually spend about a year with their mothers, so they often stay longer in rehab to learn how to survive in their natural habitat.

While it’s tempting to get close to wildlife, it’s important to keep your distance—especially from otters. They can be protective and even aggressive, especially if they feel threatened or if there are young ones nearby.

This year, there have been a few encounters between otters and dogs at Island View Beach. Wild ARC encourages dog owners to teach their pets “emergency recall” commands to help prevent risky situations.

The critter cam shows these otters in action as they practice hunting and swimming, providing a fun glimpse into their lives.
