CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — SpaceX’s Crew-11 launch for NASA was postponed today due to weather issues. Just over a minute before liftoff, officials called it off because of cumulus clouds forming over Kennedy Space Center.
NASA commentator Derrol Nail shared, “Unfortunately, the weather was not in our favor today.” The clouds posed a safety risk, as sending a rocket through such weather can cause problems.
The next attempt is set for Friday, August 1, at 11:43 a.m. EDT, with another possibility on Saturday, August 2, at 11:21 a.m. EDT. Once successful, Crew-11 will see a Falcon 9 rocket lift off carrying the Crew Dragon Endeavour, marking its sixth journey into space.
This mission includes four astronauts: NASA’s Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke, Kimiya Yui from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, and Oleg Platonov from Russia’s Roscosmos.
On their journey, they’ll travel about 40 hours to reach the International Space Station, which orbits around 248 miles above Earth. Interestingly, Crew-11 is the eleventh operational flight SpaceX has conducted for NASA as part of the Commercial Crew Program.
The program has been significant in reducing costs for space missions and increasing the frequency of travel to the ISS.
