Weekend Excitement: Discover the Best Fashion, Food, and Fundraising Events!

This weekend offers a great chance to get involved in your community while enjoying some fun activities. Here’s a look at what’s happening in the area.

World Down Syndrome Day 5K Run/Walk

Join the celebration at the Juniata Christian School’s Fifth Annual World Down Syndrome Day 5K Run/Walk this Saturday, March 18. Registration opens at 9 a.m. at the school, located at 289 Leonard Hill Road in McAlisterville. The kids’ fun run starts at 9:30 a.m., followed by the main 5K event at 10 a.m. Proceeds from this event will support the school’s Special Needs Fund, helping to raise awareness and promote inclusion for those with Down syndrome.

According to the National Down Syndrome Society, over 250,000 individuals in the U.S. have Down syndrome, making events like this crucial for community support and involvement.

Helping Hands Prom Shop

Also on Saturday, from 9 to 11 a.m., the Helping Hands of Juniata County is hosting its Prom Shop at the old Thompsontown Elementary School on School Street. This shop is a great resource for students needing formal wear, offering beautiful dresses, shoes, and other accessories at no cost. They even assist in finding the right size if you don’t see what you need.

Prom season can skyrocket costs, with the average American spending over $900 on the event. The Prom Shop is a wonderful opportunity for families in Juniata County to save while ensuring a memorable night.

Cash Fundraisers

If you’re looking for something more exciting, check out the Burnham Fire Company Cash Bash, starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday at their location on North Beech Street in Burnham. For $40, attendees can enjoy food and games, with a total payout of $3,500.

The Granville Fire Company is also hosting a Cash Night at the Lewistown Elks Lodge. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the drawing starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $35 and include a buffet dinner and drinks, making it another entertaining night out.

Seafood Dinner

Don’t miss the all-you-can-eat seafood dinner at the Fremont Social Hall, also on Saturday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Enjoy a delicious selection including baked or fried fish, shrimp, clams, and more for $22 for adults and $10 for children. Proceeds from this dinner support the Fremont Fire Department, allowing them to continue their vital work in the community.

Live Entertainment

The weekend is packed with live music as well. Catch the Houston Baker Duo at Brookmere Winery on Friday, and enjoy performances from various artists like Bella Donna and Hillbilly Diesel on Saturday. Popular events like these not only uplift the community spirit but also support local artists.

Whether you’re running for a cause, attending a fundraiser, or enjoying a meal with family and friends, this weekend has something for everyone in Juniata County. Let’s come together to support local events and celebrate community spirit!
