Welcome Monty Roe: Enhancing the Lindenwood Football Staff at Lindenwood University Athletics

Lindenwood football is welcoming a new face to its coaching staff: Monty Roe. Coach Jed Stugart announced Roe will take charge of the defensive tackles ahead of the 2025 season. With over 20 years in collegiate coaching, Roe already has a strong reputation.

“I’ve known Coach Roe for a long time,” Stugart said. “He’s a players’ coach, and his experience will be invaluable.”

Previously, Roe served as the Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Graceland University. Under his leadership, Graceland experienced a crucial turnaround. After three years of struggles, the team celebrated its first victory in 2022. By 2024, Graceland had an impressive 7-4 season, achieving the most wins in two decades.

Roe’s defensive strategies had a significant impact. In his first year as Defensive Coordinator, the team’s defense transformed dramatically. Takeaways rose from 13 to 29, and interceptions jumped from 1 to 15. Additionally, they improved their sack total from 6 to 21, showcasing a more aggressive defense. This work earned recognition; Graceland’s defense ranked No. 1 in the Heart Conference for Touchdowns Scored and Interceptions.

Before Graceland, Roe was with Missouri Valley College for 17 years, where he led one of the top rush defense teams multiple times and helped the Vikings achieve national rankings in scoring and total defense.

Roe’s coaching journey began in 1998 at Dakota State University, where he made an immediate impact. He also spent time at Wayne State College, where his defense ranked among the best in their conference.

As a player, Roe was dedicated to his craft, earning accolades at South Dakota State University and later at the University of Sioux Falls, where he served as Team Captain.

The trends in college football today emphasize the importance of a robust defense, making Roe’s experience particularly timely. Coaches like him are vital as teams increasingly rely on data analytics to shape their strategies, focusing on improving performance through detailed statistical analysis.

As Roe joins the Lindenwood team, fans and players alike are excited to see how his expertise will elevate the program. With a track record of success and a player-centered approach, he has the potential to make a lasting impact on Lindenwood’s defensive unit.
