Have you been delaying a trip to the doctor because of costs or confusion about insurance? The Ashland Health and Wellness Center might be just what you need.
Located at 309 Arthur St., this center is part of Third Street Family Health Services. They are a federally qualified health center (FQHC) that prioritizes care for everyone, regardless of their financial situation.
“As a community health center, we welcome everyone, no matter their ability to pay,” says Trevor Downing, a physician’s assistant there.
Downing explains, “If you have private or commercial insurance, we treat you just like other offices. For those on Medicaid or Medicare, it’s the same. And if you don’t have insurance, we use a sliding scale for service fees.”
Trevor is a local, trained at Ashland University. He has worked in underserved areas before joining the Ashland office. He collaborates with family nurse practitioner Mallory Humphrey, who specializes in primary care and women’s health.
“I provide primary care for all ages, from children to seniors,” says Humphrey. Together, they offer comprehensive services including wellness checks, immunizations, chronic illness management, and mental health support. They also perform women’s health services like Pap smears and exams.
The center also provides addiction services under medication-assisted treatment (MAT). “We offer Suboxone and long-acting injections right here,” shares Downing.
Ashland Health and Wellness is open five days a week and strives to fill the gaps in local healthcare, especially when specialists aren’t available. This helps ensure that everyone can access preventive care without worrying about costs. “It’s vital that patients can receive the care they need without the fear of bills,” Humphrey adds.
Both Downing and Humphrey are currently welcoming new patients. For more details on Ashland Health and Wellness, check their website or give them a call at 567-217-7778.
As you consider healthcare options, it’s worth noting that community health centers like Ashland have become essential. A recent report by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) shows they serve over 30 million people nationwide, often in areas with few options. This highlights their importance, especially in today’s healthcare landscape where access remains a challenge for many.
