New Jersey and India Unite for Health Care Education

In a significant move, Montclair State University (MSU) and Somaiya Vidyavihar University (SVU) in Mumbai are partnering to enhance health care education. This partnership was formalized with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed during New Jersey’s Governor Phil Murphy’s mission to India.

Governor Murphy emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “New Jersey has a robust health care sector. This agreement aligns MSU’s research prowess with SVU’s global insights, preparing health care workers for New Jersey.”

The MOU outlines a plan to create a certificate program focusing on adult and geriatric care. This is essential, especially as the demand for skilled nurses continues to rise. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job openings for registered nurses are projected to exceed 1 million by 2030.

Jonathan GS Koppell, President of MSU, shared, “We are ready to work with SVU to meet the increasing need for skilled nurses. This collaboration aims to improve patient outcomes across New Jersey.”

Moreover, the program includes preparing students for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). This exam is crucial for anyone seeking to become a registered nurse in the United States.

Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor of SVU, stated, “Our goal is to equip students for global careers in health care. Partnering with MSU allows us to merge our strengths with New Jersey’s health care innovation.”

Wesley Mathews, President of Choose New Jersey, highlighted the synergy between education and workforce development: “This partnership showcases New Jersey’s ability to forge global connections, creating a lasting impact.”

The partnership not only benefits students but also addresses the growing challenges in health care. With an emphasis on collaboration, both universities aim to shape the next generation of skilled professionals ready to make a difference in patient care.
