Welcoming New Students: Your Ultimate Guide to Settling in at Wheeling University

Wheeling University just welcomed its second-largest class in a decade, with over 300 new students moving in. This year, total enrollment has risen by nearly 10%. Excitingly, these newcomers hail from 30 different states and 40 countries worldwide.

Jennifer Board, the vice president of enrollment, credits this success to teamwork within the university. “Our growth is thanks to our enthusiastic president, dedicated faculty, and hard-working staff,” she said.

President Dianna Vargo echoed this sentiment, thanking everyone involved in the recruitment efforts. “We’re thrilled to welcome our new students to the vibrant Wheeling University campus,” she added.

An important milestone for these new students was the New Student Convocation, where faculty formally welcomed them into the university community. This event kicks off the academic year.

On the following day, new students took part in Make a Difference Day. This annual tradition encourages them to engage in community service, helping out around campus and in the city of Wheeling.

Students will also notice some impressive upgrades on campus, including a modern computer lab and improved classrooms, enhancing the overall learning environment.

Interestingly, higher education enrollment has been declining nationally, with a fall of about 4% in 2021 alone, according to a report from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center. This makes Wheeling’s growth even more remarkable, highlighting a positive trend during a challenging time for many institutions.

As classes begin on Monday, the energy and excitement on campus are palpable. With a community focused on support and growth, Wheeling University seems poised for a successful year ahead.
