Wellstar MCG Health Nurse Faces Allegations of Inappropriate Conduct with Teen Patient

A nurse named Al Vincent Rute Tumasis, 37, from Augusta, is currently in jail after being accused of groping a 15-year-old boy in a hospital. The incident reportedly happened during a visit on June 7.

The teen, a resident of North Augusta, called 911 after he felt uncomfortable with Tumasis’s questions and actions. The nurse had been checking the boy’s oxygen levels and made inappropriate comments about his body. He even pulled up the boy’s shirt and fondled his chest before asking personal questions about his genitalia.

Feeling uneasy, the victim stepped back and recorded the nurse’s behavior at the advice of his brother. Upon noticing the camera, Tumasis apologized and offered the boy money. The teen firmly told him to leave or he would defend himself.

When police arrived, Tumasis admitted he knew the boy was a minor and claimed he was just joking. He described himself as a “touchy” person, suggesting this was normal in his culture. However, Richmond County authorities took the allegations seriously and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Statistics show that one in five boys experience some form of sexual abuse before the age of 18, according to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. This highlights a concerning issue and the need for awareness and prevention efforts. Public reactions on social media have included outrage and calls for better training in hospitals to protect vulnerable patients.

Currently, Tumasis remains in the Charles B. Webster Detention Center without bond. Wellstar MCG Health has not publicly commented on the situation yet. Cases like this underline the importance of creating safe healthcare environments, especially for minors.
