In 2019, Wendell Pierce found himself in London, heading to a performance of “Death of a Salesman.” As he walked through Piccadilly Circus, he saw his face on a huge billboard advertising the Prime Video series “Jack Ryan.” That moment was special: his film “Burning Cane” was also screening at the London Film Festival, where he had just won best actor at Tribeca.
Inspired, Pierce declared, “I want to do the trifecta every year.” He wanted to act in theater, TV, and film. Now, he’s aiming even higher with a quadfecta.
This weekend, audiences can catch him in the Shakespeare Theater Company’s “Othello,” followed by episodes of “Elsbeth” on CBS, and streamed content from “Jack Ryan.” In a few weeks, he’ll be on “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” switching roles to play a robber, a departure from his usual cop characters.
“It’s a badge of honor,” Pierce said, reflecting on his diverse resume. His commitment to the craft drives him to take on varied roles. He describes himself as a “journeyman actor,” engaged in productions across different mediums.
Pierce’s journey began over 30 years ago with “Duke Ellington’s Queenie Pie.” He recalls touring and learning from those around him, emphasizing the importance of excellence in performance. “That was a great lesson right at the start of my career,” he said.
Now, stepping into the challenging role of Othello, he embraces his fears. “It’s a great challenge,” he admits. With “Jack Ryan: Ghost War,” he can dive deeper into his character’s backstory, enhancing the audience’s experience.
