West Fargo Resident Takes Seat on North Dakota State Board of Higher Education: What This Means for Local Students

Levi Bachmeier from West Fargo has been appointed to the State Board of Higher Education for a four-year term, joining Patrick Sogard from Williston. This appointment comes from Governor Kelly Armstrong.

Governor Armstrong highlighted the importance of both Bachmeier and Sogard, saying they bring significant skills in education policy and finance. He noted that North Dakota’s higher education system is key for workforce development and must adapt to changes in demographics and learning environments. The governor expressed gratitude for their commitment to higher education and the enthusiasm shown by all candidates.

Bachmeier works as a business manager for the West Fargo School District, a position he’s held since 2019. Before this, he served as an education policy adviser and policy director for former North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. His experience includes a mix of teaching and public service.

Both Bachmeier and Sogard’s appointments are pending approval from the state Senate. The State Board of Higher Education consists of eight voting members appointed by the governor, including a student member, and two non-voting members representing the faculty and staff of the North Dakota University System. The Board oversees 11 public colleges and universities in the state.
