West Palm Beach Man Arrested in Shocking Tulane University Student Loan Fraud Scheme

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A man from West Palm Beach is in trouble for allegedly using someone else’s personal information to get a student loan for a master’s program at Tulane University.

On January 28, the West Palm Beach Police Department received a report from a victim. The victim had received a notice from a Federal Student Loan Agency. It said that Evan Sanders, 26, had taken out a loan to study at Tulane, even though the victim never applied for such a loan.

The victim told detectives that Sanders had helped her with her taxes in 2022, which gave him access to her personal information. Investigators later found that Sanders had linked her bank account details to his own PayPal and Venmo accounts earlier in January.

Additionally, police found that Sanders had filed a motion to seal his criminal record. He claimed he was accepted into Tulane’s master’s program starting January 2025 and even celebrated this news on Facebook on January 6, sharing updates about his studies.

However, a Tulane University officer confirmed that Sanders is not on the list of students for 2025.

Because of the investigation, Sanders now faces two charges of fraudulent use of personal identification and two charges of grand theft.
